Haven't played much Archwing prior to the event? Don't know know what you're doing or otherwise struggling? Well, my friend, you've come to the right place. As I take a break from 40 long runs of Caelus and still not finding a damned Centaur part, I'll share with you what I have learned in my grand adventure thus far.

Getting Started:
When in doubt, check the  wiki out.
The  quest for Archwing is unlocked very early in the life of a new account at the ripe young age of Mastery Rank 2. In fact, you can complete the quest just on Venus. Your reward for this adventure? An awesome final level and the  OdonataImperator, and  Veritux. These starting Archwing pieces are arguably best-in-slot equipment right now (though the Iztal looks to be a strong contender and the Imperator Vandal will likely succeed the Imperator).
As you go into your first Archwing mission, take a minute to get used to the new mechanics. You move MUCH faster, spaces are MUCH larger, and your sprint is now a major speed boost with new movement mechanics (which bleed into new melee attacks as well). Your crouch is now a 'descend' mechanic and can still be used while sprinting for a slide effect rather than descent. Your primary weapon has infinite ammo which uses a charge system (replenishes itself over time). Your melee only really benefits from quick melee attacks, though you can equip it as your current weapon as with normal melee weapons and even charge it to convert energy into stronger attacks. The only melee weapon capable of blocking is the Centaur which was recently added, however.
If you've played other games with underwater combat, it helps to think of Archwing as that: Underwater combat. But much faster, much more fluid, and much more satisfying. It is not true three-dimensional movement (pitch, yaw, roll) but the plus side is that this gives DE the opportunity to make much more scenic and interesting levels instead of heavily relying on wide-open spaces... though there will be plenty of those aaaand the narrow spaces feel really clunky right now.
Feel good about the controls? Alright moving on!

Just tell me what to use I don't care about this
Pfft. Fine. Here you go.

QuoteWARFRAME: Rejuvenation, Corrosive Projection, or Steel Charge aura.
Use Rejuvenation because it is the safety net you need to learn with in solo plus it is always helpful to have one in a group. Corrosive Projection is the next runner up because almost every enemy in Archwing has armor stacked up. Steel Charge as the final mention because it is a great bonus to your melee which is already very strong.

QuoteARCHWING: Odonata (add potato, highly recommended)
Elytron does have its uses and it is in a much better place now that Thumper can be recast at will and energy is so abundant now that you can freely use its skills. Unfortunately the damage still does fall off quite a bit and its lack of utility outside of Core Vents is not particularly helpful in high level missions. Spamming Thumper on Interception is great and all but it takes quite a while to build up to being able to do that. Odonata is a great wing to start with and it never stops being useful.

QuotePRIMARY: Imperator (potato recommended)
The most reliable weapon. Hitscan, large ammo pool, ridiculously quick fire rate, and ideal free polarity. But the Imperator mostly shines because... well the other weapons are kind of garbage. Velocitus has the highest potential damage weapon but it has many shortcomings between travel time on the projectile and the charge mechanic. Corvas is only effective in what is basically melee range, Dual Decurion is neat but high recoil and nowhere near as reliable as Imperator. I have not tried out the Fluctus yet and no one has an Imperator Vandal yet. The greatest weakness of all the weapons that are not the Imperator is that you are almost always better off just using melee attacks.

QuoteMELEE: Any. Seriously, they are all good choices. (potato also recommended)
I went with Veritux and I've forma'd it a few times. The Onorix is probably better, especially as one of your starting weapons if you can get it early on. The Rathbone alright but I think the Veritux has an edge (heheh) over it. The new Centaur weapon looks very promising as well but I have not played with it. Your melee attacks will automatically track and propel you to any enemy within range.

How do I not die because I am dying
A few things.

  1. Your power has been completely been reset to ZERO. What did you think would happen when you took your rank 0 stuff to the Limbo interception mission? Try taking a fully 0 loadout to Cerberus on Pluto and let me know how it goes.
  2. Work. Get to Erpo on Earth and start playing around to experience the mechanics. You'll have enough shields/armor/health to withstand making many terrible mistakes here unless you plan on going over 8 waves. Plus, your weapons will be sufficient in dispatching enemies at an okay pace without any mods.
  3. Erpo Earth is not just a great way to pick up ranks and mods, it's also an ideal training ground to learn the combat mechanics of Archwing. You cannot just ram your face against enemies here. Not only because you have had your power reset, but because these enemies actually punish you for trying to mash your head against them. The enemy attacks are simple, their movements are easy to read, and there is some variety. More on that later.
  4. Mod yourself the right way. Weapons should have Corrosive as your damage element (Electric + Poison). Work on getting your Archwing's Shields and Armor up. Health is a harder mod to come back (kill Corpus for days), but also worthwhile. You can worry about power range/efficiency/duration or the gimmicky Hyperion Thrusters once you're more familiar with Archwing and have the mod capacity for them. Make your weapons as powerful as you can, your Archwing is not nearly as important.

Now that we have that out of the way, let's talk about general strategy.
The enemies can be classified in a few ways. There are the floaters, the pursuers, and the nuisances.
Floaters are the enemies that don't do too much but they are numerous. These are your Grineer Dargyns and your Corpus Drones. They don't have too much health, nor do they deal much damage. When floaters are alone, they are only a threat when in mass numbers or accompanying Pursuers. You can easily out-maneuver them to gain some distance and control the fight.
Pursuers are your dangerous enemies. Your Grineer Hellions/Ogmas and your Corpus Corvettes/Gox..es. Goxs? Goaxes? Anyways, these enemies are the most dangerous among the mix. They are generally much tankier than everything else and deal substantially more damage, meaning they are not ideal targets to attack with melee. Use your range to your advantage and keep your distance. These enemies are the most dangerous when they are flanking you because their attacks have the potential to stack up and kill you. These enemies are also the easiest to counter with Archwing abilities such as Odonata's Disarray or Elytron's Core Vents because they use actual projectiles and not hitscan attacks. They are the reason you should never stand still, especially in an area where enemies continue to spawn. On the plus side, these enemies do not move quickly so you can maneuver for a range advantage or to avoid their attacks. The key to defeating pursuers is to use your mobility.
Nuisances are the enemies that do not deal much damage at all but provide utility or bulk which bolster the efforts of their allies. Nuisances are also the enemies that instantly melt and provide no challenge in dispatching other than forcing you to sort your priorities. Nuisances are the Grineer Dregs or the Corpus Rangers (and arguably Locust Drones from Carriers). Melee is your best option in quickly removing their presence. In particular, the Grineer's Temporal Dreg, which removes your ability to boost (though you can cheese this with slide + melee attacks), must be destroyed if you plan to outrun a horde of enemies.
And, of course, ALWAYS STAY MOBILE. That is the most important thing to do in Archwing. It sucks that you can't stop and type out directions, that you can't alt+tab to look something up, but if there are enemies nearby you should not be standing still.
Progression Path
While I will continue to sing nothing but praise for Erpo, you do have some options as to what you can do to level up your Archwing and get some very important mods. That's right, Archwing mods can be obtained not only as drops but as mission completion rewards. You'll see them come on rotation in Interception, but if you complete Extermination/Sabotage you will be given one (or sometimes a part for crafting). Caduceus on Mercury is a level 5-7 mission Exterminate. Similarly, Mars and Venus are relatively low level and relatively easy to complete unmodded.
Once you have your Rubedo-Lined Barrel and your Cutting Edge, Jupiter and Saturn should become much more feasible to complete. Additionally, Neptune, which is a level 28-30 mission, can easily be completed if you avoid all enemy combat and just aim for the sabotage objectives. Not a great place to farm for affinity or mods, but if you are after something in particular from there it is definitely possible.
Caelus on Uranus is currently the Archwing end-game. And you need to come prepared. You can get by on your weapons alone but regardless you should not venture in here until your gear has sufficient mods. Your weapons should be lined with Corrosive and raw damage, adding in multishot/fire rate for your primary and whatever you can get your hands on for melee. It is entirely possible to complete this mission with Rank 20+ gear without any potatoes, but it will not be easy. Caelus is where your Archwing abilities start to matter. If you cannot kill enough enemies, you will not generate enough energy to sustain ability usage, so Odonata's #3, Elytron's #4, become very much unreliable.
It's a short path made longer by low affinity gains. There aren't many missions. Unfortunately that means you might end up bored of repeating the same missions over and over... But if you're a fan of character action games or things like Monster Hunter, this won't be a big deterrent.
Aside from playing and getting experience for yourself, that's all you really need to know for the general Archwing stuff. If you have any specific questions or if you just need help with it in general, feel free to ask. Even in game. IGN: TGDM
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go complete run#41 of Caelus.
EDIT: Run 41 done. Another void key.
But! Good news for you guys! Another fun section. LO, AND BEHOLD:
Overly specific and extremely useful Archwing tips
  • Your sliding melee attack (default shift+c I think) deals significantly more damage than a standard melee attack. And larger AoE. And if it kills an enemy you will zip right on past them. Also, you do not need to wait for the animation to trigger, as long as you have the stamina to enter the boost mode (shift) to toggle crouch (c), you can chain attacks with this. Not exactly spammable because there is a slight pause, but it's a great way to stay mobile.
  • Your sliding melee attack can be used to effectively negate Temporal Dregs. Use with discretion, however, as Dregs usually accompany Hellions.
  • Elytron's Warhead (#4) can quickly destroy Corpus Sabotage rooms and expose the cores.
  • When playing Interception, do not stand on the point after capturing it. Instead, hover a few hundred meters outside of the capture zone, away from enemy spawn pathing. You'll be able to freely open fire on enemies before they swarm on you.
  • In case the above wasn't clear, don't stand on enemy spawn paths. When enemies spawn, especially on interecption missions, they generally have a designated location they will go to. This location is typically sorted in this priority order: 1) Player-owned capture point, 2) Players location capture point, 3) Proximity capture point. This how sometimes while everyone is defending at D sometimes B will be capped. The proximity thing I mean.
  • Odonata's Disarray (#2) can cause you to take damage if you use it while rockets are already flying close to you. Because the flares blow up the rockets are you're nearby. Use it earlier rather than later.
  • Odonata's Repel (#4) inconsistently provides an AI reset for enemies. On interception this can be very useful because they will flock to the center of a point after the CC ends, allowing you to wipe them all out quickly.
  • Elytron's Bloomer (#1) damage does not pass through objects.
  • While boosting and holding the W key to move forward, lightly tapping A or D will allow you to quickly turn. Also, letting go of the W key and then holding the S key (while still boosting) will allow you to do a very quick full stop.
  • If you boost and crouch you can easily regenerate stamina without losing speed.
  • If you boost and crouch you can also fire your primary, but it might be a bit hard to aim if you're not moving the same direction as your target.
  • Hellion rocket visuals are split into two parts: The missile and the rocket trail. The missile travels faster than the rocket trail and is very difficult to see.
  • You can shoot down Hellion rockets (or use Core Vents or Disarray to stop them).
  • Velocitus is terrible at hitting Corpus sabotage objectives.

legends cut it up how you like. not my guide, formatting was a pain and the word limit was frustrating me hence the font is all over the place.

When your guide is together I think you should wordpress it and monetize it. Some people really need your help to learn skills in this game. You can share the love and save the world from 9 minute extractors and hallway heroes.

wordpress would be easy as hell - though i would have to constantly update it and make sure its in working order (i could just add a cache? -updates free?)

would anyone be interesting in buying a guide to warframe? - maybe if i decked it out completely with coloured in backgrounds and aeverything of the such i could sell for like 30~ a piece? maybe even sell the rights to DE for them to add to their databases?

Short of completely rewriting it, No. I was not the author of this. Properly formatted post was on the third post. (can't even copy that link because of this websites hotlinking actions)
