Today I tried to play Warframe in Virtual Reality using a OnePlus, a OnePlus Cardboard and TrinusVR (server & client).
Playing it's possible, but tricky, and the micro-lag between movement and vision could be nasty for someone.
Have you tryed something like this altready?

It's more immersive than Nvidia 3D for example, because you can actually see 360° around you moving your head, and this is good, but its lag can be problematic.
After all you can use usb or wifi, but it's not as fast as an HDMI connection.
I hope that future VR will be a mix of these 2 things, head-motion-tracker & nolag.
Oculus rift has problems about lag for example, problem partially solved by IR tracking.
Others do not support head-motion-tracker, they are static as a normal monitor.
That's why i'm enthusiastic but also conscious about actual VR problems.
